TomTom ONE 125 – GPS receiver
The TomTom One 125 is not the newest or striking portable navigation device market, but okay. Not everyone needs the latest and greatest. What is the One 125 offers a solid entry level GPS for the first time buyers or those looking for features navigation basics. Like the TomTom 130 S (except that it includes maps of Canada or a text to speech), the GPS is easy to use and affordable 179.99 dollars. There are compromises, of course. For example, receives a 3.5-inch screen instead of a 4.3-inch screen and, as mentioned above, there are not text to speech function. But it offers in the important moments, with close monitoring and a clear and audible.
Design
One thing you will notice TomTom One 125 to the right of the box is simple and compact design. It's a way similar to the TomTom One 130 S, which measures only 3.8 inches 3.2 inch wide by 1 inch thick and weighs 6.7 oz. Is sufficiently small that it can have on hand for navigation on foot or riding a bicycle and pedestrian GPS and bicycle routes as a bonus modes.
In the front is a touch screen 3.5-inch WVGA. With an output of 64,000 colors and 320×240 resolution pixels, the image is strong enough, if the screen is on the small side. Having considered a range of 4.3-inch models recently, the screen is 125 A is particularly small. However, we have been able to see the cards in a clear and easy to read menus. The user interface is simple and intuitive, with two pages menu and large, easy to understand icons. In the Preferences menu, also able to change the colors of the map, adjust the position of the tray on the screen map, select the night mode, and more.
The screen keyboard is a bit restrictive than the small screen, so we made some mistakes in writing directions. The good news is that the 125 offers a predictive text will start at the surface of the possible outcomes when you start entering letters. We appreciate that you can choose between QWERTY and ABC format, and there is an option to upgrade to a larger keyboard in a smaller, but we can not imagine any reason why I want to do.
Not much to the NDP. At the top is a button. A mini-USB connector supply is at the bottom of the device. The speaker is located on the rear car holder with hooks.
The TomTom One 125 comes with a vehicle EasyPort (windshield and dash), a USB cable, charger car, and reference material. The car is the same as EasyPort supplied with the TomTom One 130. The accessory consists of a large circular ring attached to the back of the GPS and Adjustable arm for attachment to the windshield or dashboard disk. To ensure a secure seal, there is also a button to lock the accessory in place.
The EasyPort, is shaky and we found some problems on the road. It was used dashboard – windscreens are technically supports banned in California – and for most, the GPS is still in place, but there were a couple of times we got into some rough parts of the road and jumped a 125 of the crib. We understand that TomTom has wanted to keep things simple and small, but we would like a more fitting if it meant more security.
Features
Like the rest of society a number of devices, the TomTom One 125 offers basic navigation features in an easy to use package first time buyers and minimalists. The system comes preloaded with maps of the United States alone, and you can enter your destination by address, city, code order, or intersection. Alternatively, you can choose one of your list of favorites or recent destinations and automatically the main route from your current location by clicking Home icon.
The 125 offers routing options, including the fastest or the shortest route, with or without toll roads, and so on. As mentioned above, there are also pedestrian and bicycle modes. Once you have entered your trip, you can see the route on the map, directions or text mode for a demonstration of operation. If you ever wish to avoid a part of your itinerary, you can press "Search" alternative "icon on new directions. The system also supports automatic recalculations Multicast routing and TRIPS.
The database of points of interest NDP includes all major categories, including ATMs, gas stations, and housing. Unfortunately, you can search for restaurants by cuisine. If you have interests more specialized, the list also contains entries for beaches, campgrounds, cultural centers, and more. There are several ways to plan the PDI: You can search by them along the route, near your destination, or in the nearby house.
You can view maps in 2D or 3D. A status bar at the bottom of the screen displays information useful, such as distance and direction of next turn, remaining distance and estimated time of arrival. If you want more or less information, you can customize what appears in the status bar in the Preferences menu. The operation of left half of the status bar (where the next instruction shown) and repeat the instructions voice give you access to the volume control. We are also two icons in the upper right and upper left that allows you to expand and maps.
In addition to the signals visual, the TomTom One 125 provides voice directions turn by turn, but unfortunately, unlike the 130, does not get the functionality, text to speech. This means you hear more generic instructions, such as "Turn left in 100 feet" rather than specific street names. Even if the 125 is a database system, would still have liked to see the inclusion of text to speech function.
There are some additional benefits. As the latest GPS TomTom One 125 includes "Help!" Safety device that gives access to a range of tools and emergency information. For example, a "Where am I?" function given to its current location, longitude and latitude, and nearest intersection. In addition, you can find the police station, hospital, repairer automobiles, and other services with a simple touch of the screen. It is very comfortable and gives you some peace of mind, especially if you're in uncharted territory.
Performance
We tested the TomTom One 125 in San Francisco and Los Angeles. From a cold start, it took about two minutes to GPS to get a fix on our location under cloudy skies, while subsequent starts were much faster. While driving around San Francisco the unit did a good job monitoring our situation and to keep our movement. It has also been able to maintain GPS as we drove around the district, where tall buildings often block a clear view of sky.
GPS was used on two trips: San Francisco to Los Angeles and the other the Marina District of San Francisco in the host city of CNET. We have our starting point and end on the first trip, and 125 One is back with a road in less than a minute. Although the road was fairly simple, the NDP gently guided us through several highways, including Los Angeles as we neared our destination.
We experienced the same positive results in the second trip. The TomTom ONE provides clear instructions and 125, unlike TomTom One 130 S, we have heard the voice instructions without any problems. They were loud and clear, but again, we want the text to speech function. Finally, we missed several turns along the way to test the rate of route calculation and the GPS was able to catch up quickly.
