Preventing California Bicycle Accidents – a Newport and Laguna Beach bicycle accident lawyer looks at Goofy Bicycle Laws
If you have been injured seriously a bicycle accident in Orange County, Huntington Beach to Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, California, Irvine, Anaheim, Fullerton and Santa Ana, or if you have been in a motorcycle accident in San Diego El Cajon Chula Vista, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Del Mar, Carlsbad or Escondido or injured on the bike in Fullerton, San Bernardino, Redlands, Palm Springs and Palm Desert, might wonder if the California State Legislators are inventing new laws to try to prevent bicycle accidents.
The last time I heard that in California, state lawmakers have been training to adopt a new law to prevent bicycle accidents (not really, but he did for a good article) and wanted to know what rules could prevent such accidents in future, so I called one of my state Senators.
"It's the law against using cell phones text apply to cyclists? I asked.
"Only if a court finds drivers, "concluded the senator." We like to leave these laws vague and open to interpretation, so that lawyers have something to do with their time. "
"What is illegal?" I asked.
"On one hand, no more bike riding along the beach or the mountains," the senator said.
"Why what you're outside the law? "I asked.
The senator looked at me like I'm crazy. "Because this is a big part of cycling accidents happen. "
"Do you ban anything else? "I asked.
"No more kids on bikes", Senator.
"You mean that the passengers behind their parents?" I asked.
"No more children on bikes at all, "proudly said the senator." Hopefully this will dramatically reduce cycling accidents with children. "
"Well, duh, I said. "If children can not ride a bicycle, bicycle accidents only cause injury to children when adults are cycling."
"And we will much more difficult to do much," the senator said.
"How you do that?" I asked.
"By making adults walking cycling," said the senator said.
"This is ridiculous," I said. "There is an ongoing energy crisis and want idiots stop the bike. "
The senator took umbrage. "We're trying to help the automotive industry. "
"By prohibiting the bike?
"Having adults drive their children to school, "the senator said.
"What?"
"Think about it," the senator said. "If children can not ride a bicycle to school What are you going to do, especially when reducing bus service. "
"Walk?
Senator frowned. "We think more along the lines of conduct for parents, buy more cars, fewer accidents of children bike …."
"It will not happen, I said.
The senator listened anxiously.
"Families do not have money to buy a new car.
"We're still going to ban cyclists in video games on their bikes ", Senator.
"I believe that children can live with that," he I said.
"What about cell phones and send SMS?
"If you think about it," said the senator.
