"Ed ho nel silenzio sentit Within Me A Voce."
(And in the silence, I heard a voice inside me.)
~ Paolo Limiti
When Donald Braswell took the stage June 27, 2009 as a concert soloist with the Symphony Orchestra Hills in Kerrville, Texas, few knew what to expect. Most of the audience consisted local people expect a night of classical music collection. The orchestra members probably used to accompany classical singers, entered in this performance as they would any other. However, when it jumped up Braswell tenor effortlessly through the passages of leggiero "You Fedele Di SE "Un Ballo in Maschera by Verdi, even those who knew her story hard to believe that there was a time during which they might not even pronounce a word. Before the night was over, was to captivate audiences with his interpretations of popular standards, including such classics as Bobby Darin and Sam Cooke. Even members of the band were moving to the beat of the music, enjoying the changes in tempo and sometimes become mesmerized the hearing itself.
Braswell has finally come full circle. The graduate of Juilliard and protected by Franco Corelli, the prince of the tenor, was formerly known and praised for her role as first tenor Cavaradossi in Tosca, Gianni Schicchi of Rinuccio, and Pinkerton in "Madama Butterfly", but at the height of his career, saw his dream broken in the final seconds of the fatal car accident hit and run some of that destroyed voice. The journey back to their place of honor with an orchestra took almost fourteen years, but again, met Donald Braswell search, this time exudes passion of a mature artist tempered by the agony of loss.
Mountaineering to fame and catastrophic fall
In late 1995, her tremulous vibrato resonated throughout the aria "Addio, Fiorito asil" ("Farewell, haven of flowers ") from Puccini's Madame Butterfly, Donald Braswell, if he does not know it at the same time, it was also tender" addio "to your career Premier tenor. Five years have passed since graduating Juilliard, and he was becoming an international star whose early musical brilliance equal to the Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingo. But success is promising what can be removed in an instant.
It is time for Braswell adversity while cycling through Wales Country. He was struck by a car and, consequently, suffered extensive damage to the soft tissues of the throat. Medical professionals reported, because the type of injury, that talk of a challenge and the singing was out of reach.
Braswell was devastated. Having grown up surrounded by music, he never imagined life in silence. His parents, Don Sr. and Jane, were artists from Broadway he met on the set of L'il Abner. "For me, classical music is deeply ingrained in me from the beginning, and I did not hear anything at that time, I was a child, "said Braswell." Then, when I was seven or eight years I played in a lot of things that [my parents] have been done … so what kind of natural sense that I go a day in the field of music in some As … I still remember the first smell of the theater, the lights and feel like a kid in the scene, and hearing the sound running of a public … was a world that I just account – is a world where I felt at home. "
Shortly after college, his wife Julie was persuaded to apply to Juilliard school with an acceptance rate of around 6%. He did it only for his humor, his thought was impossible for admission. Julie and her family are not only recognize talent Juilliard Braswell only accepted but also gave him several awards including the prestigious Enrico Caruso.
Thus began the journey that would lead to child next to the quiet hills of Texas to international stardom. His accomplishments, both at the Juilliard School and on stage earned him a scholarship from the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation entitling him to study with Franco Corelli, famous. Corelli Braswell him credit for the musician it is today: "The first time he worked with Franco Corelli, no I know what to expect. There was a mystery about how he taught the song that no one speaks for some reason. I think Corelli, because it really teaches you to sing. Singers showed where it comes from and how felt the music and why he felt the music and how [the] type of music it was created. "
Braswell is Corelli learn not only provide music, but also to create with a passion. This passion, along with his versatile lyric tenor-dramatic, because he the perfect yarn for many classic works of Puccini, Verdi and Donizetti. It toured the world for several years before the dramatic moment that marked the collapse worldwide.
A period of silence
In a television interview in December 2008, Braswell said it was only after his accident he understood what it meant to suffer from depression, consumed nearly two years while living in the silence that was imposed on him. Despite this, he dreamed of a way of expressing anguish of the most natural way he knew – through music. He has composed numerous songs, including "Look At Me" (which recently performed in several concerts dedicated to the homeless). The song captures the listener, precisely because of its simplicity and powerful touch "Look at me," begs the poetic voice of the audience: "I'm really somebody." He reminds us that the pain they must endure the music was booming and fiercely fight to be released.
Then he was silent, however, there was no any instrument that could release the music on it. That's when Braswell began to realize that, despite the pain I was going through, there was another source of happiness – Your family. His first son was born at the time, and named Aria. In March 2009, Braswell said Diane Bliss Detroit PBS: "An air is the song of love, rather than expression and emotion in an opera. I called him because when I had no voice, Aria's voice would be for me. It was my song when I had one. "But Inside, the music never died, Braswell continued to dream that one day his children would be able to hear him sing, to understand the wonder of his earlier career.
Journey through America's Got Talent
Years later, against all odds, a ray of hope entered in his world of dark music, when he slowly began to resume her singing abilities and realized that his dream can not lose. He assumed the yield potential with regional groups and his church, to strengthen their voice. When the time came, was Julie, who, as before, put it in a way that would lead to the world of music – he deserved. In 2007, when the third season of NBC's Got Talent America has been looking for new competitors, Julie sent in a video hearing on behalf of her husband. In September this year, was called to Dallas for a preliminary hearing. In a performance of 90 seconds, his life would change … again.
When announced that it would be Josh Groban singing "You Raise Me Up", you can hear the laughter and jeers from the audience followed. At the end of the song the whole crowd was cheering – unanimously to send the song to the next round. After listening to the audience Groban Braswell told the radio personality Billy Bush: "What a voice! Audience …] history [... obviously happening now open tubes ... I'm sure it will have a great race!"
After to hear this successfully, Braswell advanced but not for long time. To the indignation of the spectators, judges do not go before the Top 40, and Braswell - Throw your career the second time in his life - has returned to his previous job at the dealership, thinking that the song was not his destiny.
Fate would have otherwise. When an invitation to open in the Top 40 (Summer 2008), Braswell was one of eight candidates selected for the opportunity to return. During the last season, NBC showed a video of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Braswell congratulate him on his performance of "Music of the Night" by The Phantom Opera and expressing the desire to work with him in the future.

However, when working with musical director and arranger José Antonio Bazzani Irizarry in preparation for their concert with the Symphony Orchestra of majestic hills, the result was a night of unexpected musical charm. Among the many surprises of the night included a tribute to Ennio Morricone, a piece titled simply "Ennio", a collaboration between composer and lyricist Bazzani Braswell. The orchestra can be based on a small town, but it is definitely world class violinists even begun to scratch its instruments a guitar to spice Pops concert party. fully exploit the unique talents and versatility, Braswell and the symphony had the audience on a musical journey without fault 1832 (L'Elisir d'amore by Donizetti) today.
