Must see to believe
Kennecott Bingham Canyon Mine (or more correctly, Bingham Canyon Copper Mine) must be seen to be believed.
Imagine a gigantic hole. At the top of a mountain. 2 1 / 2 miles wide and 3 / 4 of a mile deep. Actually visible from space. And there are photos in the visitor center to prove it.
If it were a stage, it would take nine million people! At 6700 feet altitude, which can stay and look down at the largest excavation made by man on earth.
Bingham Canyon mine is less than an hour from Salt Lake City. Located west of Salt Lake City in the Oquirrh Mountains, is the oldest and the world's largest copper mine open.
Mine is not charged how much?
Since its commissioning in 1863, the mine has given more 12 million tons of copper. And tons of gold, silver and other minerals.
As you stand and look down at the Bingham Canyon mine, you will experience the incredible vastness of the largest man-made excavation on earth. When you look at what is happening here – a true work of mine, you will hear a audio in several languages that are watching.
The vastness of the septic truck dwarfs can drag the roads diverted extension of the scope of the mine. However, these trucks are monstrous. Able to carry loads of 240 and 320 tons.

Children in school do not pay bus. Scouts in uniform or not. And vans County facilities operated non-profit for people older. And visitors domain is fully accessible to persons with disabilities.
The entry fee is $ 5 for cars. $ 25 for mini bus. And $ 50 for a bus. And if you wonder where it goes, all profits are donated to local charities and nonprofit organizations.
More 2.6 million people visited the site since 1992. And more than 2,000,000 dollars have been donated to charity.
When are you open?
April to October every day. Reservations are not necessary, but you want to go there at least one hour before sunset.
Always check the visiting hours in advance before making the drive output.
A "secret" in the mine
If you want a view of the open pit mine up, it will not cost a cent. Well, maybe a little gas. And even if you climb a mountain bike.
Just a little north of the city of Herriman in the southwest corner of Salt Valley Lake City, is a path that goes to the beautiful and picturesque Butterfield Canyon. The fall colors are gorgeous.
