Is there a noticeable performance difference between Giant FCR2 and FCR3 bikes?
I’m looking to start communiting (8 mile one-way) on a bike and am researching for a light and fast road bike with flat handlebar in the $500 neighborhood. The owner of my local bike shop recommended the Giant FCR series, in particular the FCR 2. He said that the difference between FCR3 and 2 is significant while that between 2 and 1 isn’t for the price. I’m wondering if this is true. Does composite fork make that much of a difference in performance? Which one of these would be lighter? And in general, what is meant when someone says a bike rides better?
Also, is there other brands/models I should consider?

Either will make a good commuter bike. For the money go with the FCR3 as for the other questions this is more sales hype than anything else.

The fork on the FCR2 will dampen road feedback a little better.
