Eight (8) tips for cycling safely in traffic
Cycling is one of the nicest vehicles – and it may be safer if cyclists respect the rules of the road and other motorists on the road.
The following tips are suggestions to ensure bicycle safety – and all other travelers on the road or another vehicle or bicycle in a car.
1. Make the driver you are there – where the colors at all times and are equipped front and rear lights on the bike after sunset and before sunrise or bad weather.
2. Travel on the defensive and predictable so that motorists know you know what you do and feel comfortable on the road with you. Be courteous and respectful of traffic rules and conditions anywhere.
3. No spin in and out of empty spaces on the side of the road between parked cars. Others in the way you see and can not predict what will. Cycle in a line parallel to your traffic and parked cars.
4. Use hand signals for turns and lane changes and stops. Use your left arm with a finger is for left turns and arm right with a finger pointing to the right turns. It helps build mutual respect between cyclists and motorists.
5. As for drivers, be aware of their like riding a bike around. Always be aware of other cars, children and animals through every street and residential areas.
6. When traffic is stop and go – you – the rider can go as fast as the vehicles in traffic. No in and out of vehicles in circulation. Ride the road and where traffic is stop and go. If you hug the curb, it is less visible and it is tempting for drivers to squeeze by.
7. Do not try to gain ground at red lights, passing a line of cars on the left. It is illegal and can cause injury if the car at first right on red or if the oncoming traffic has a green arrow that allows them to turn left cross in front of you and the car stopped next to you. Wait until the red light and continue the same actions as a vehicle car.
8. Be both reflected sunlight in the early morning and evening. It affects not only your clear vision of the road, but also prevents drivers and they can not see you. If possible, change your route so you do not go directly to the sun.
In short, always keep in mind, if a driver can not you see – you can not avoid! Be aware of your surroundings while being ready to brake pedal.
